The magnificent "Vöhlin Castle" is one of the most important sights of Bavarian Swabia. Built in the 12th century as Tissen Castle of the Counts of Kirchberg, the estate was acquired in 1520 by the Memminger Vöhlin family of merchants and patricians, who kept the castle in private property for 236 years. From 1803, the castle had a regional importance as a seat for several state and municipal authorities and offices. In mid-2009, the branch office of the district court of Neu-Ulm, which was last located here, was dissolved. Since 2010, the main building and side wing of the "Vöhlin Castle" have been available to the Augsburg, Kempten and Neu-Ulm universities as a training, management and conference center.
